Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 942 (LINC00942) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) longer than 200 nucleotides that does not code for protein. It is upregulated in various cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma, lung adenocarcinoma, breast cancer, and gastric cancer, and is linked to tumor proliferation, immune suppression, ferroptosis inhibition, and chemoresistance. Mechanistically, LINC00942 can act as an oncogene through interactions with RNA-binding proteins, such as IGF2BP3, or by functioning as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) for microRNAs affecting key regulators of cell survival and proliferation. In hepatocellular carcinoma, LINC00942 suppresses ferroptosis and induces regulatory T-cell immunosuppression by stabilizing SLC7A11 mRNA with IGF2BP3 in an m6A methylation-dependent manner[1]. In gastric cancer, LINC00942 is associated with cisplatin resistance via stabilization of Musashi2 (MSI2), impacting c-Myc signaling[4]. Its overexpression generally correlates with adverse prognosis and may serve as both a biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in multiple malignancies[1][2][4][5].
