Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 957 (LINC00957) is a long non-coding RNA molecule that does not encode a protein but is involved in important regulatory functions in cancer cells. It is upregulated in several malignancies, including colorectal cancer and glioblastoma. In colorectal cancer, LINC00957 promotes tumor progression, correlates with disease stage, is associated with chemoresistance (especially against 5-fluorouracil), and acts by modulating the expression of multidrug resistance proteins such as P-glycoprotein (ABCB1). In glioblastoma, LINC00957 functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), regulating the activity of microRNAs (notably miR-17-5p) and thereby modulating targets like nephronectin (NPNT)—this axis influences cell cycle, proliferation, migration, and contributes to resistance to cell death (cuproptosis). LINC00957 is considered a potential therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker for several cancers due to its consistent overexpression and impact on tumor biology. No direct drug agents specifically target LINC00957 as of 2025, but its inhibition has been shown to sensitize cancer cells to conventional chemotherapies in preclinical studies.
Modulates chemotherapy resistance by regulating P-glycoprotein expression (via ABCB1) in colorectal cancer. Acts as a ceRNA, sponging microRNAs (e.g., miR-17-5p) to regulate expression of target genes such as nephronectin (NPNT) in glioblastoma, thereby impacting cell proliferation, migration, and cuproptosis.
