Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 968 (LINC00968) is a human long non-coding RNA transcribed from an intergenic region, not encoding a protein but instead functioning as a regulatory RNA[3]. LINC00968 is typically downregulated in several cancers, including lung adenocarcinoma, breast cancer, and ovarian cancer, and low expression is associated with aggressive disease and poor prognosis[1][2][4][6][7][8]. Mechanistically, LINC00968 acts as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sequestering specific microRNAs (such as miR-9-5p, miR-21-5p, and miR-22-5p), thereby de-repressing target mRNAs like CPEB3, SMAD7, and CDC14A[1][2][4][5]. It influences cell proliferation, migration, and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition, ultimately suppressing tumor growth and metastasis. Studies also implicate LINC00968 in regulating gene networks involved in vascular development and cancer-related pathways[6]. Due to its involvement in these oncogenic processes and its prognostic value, LINC00968 is considered a promising biomarker and potential therapeutic target in oncology, although no direct LINC00968-targeting drugs are currently known.
