Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 987 (LINC00987) is a long non-coding RNA found on chromosome 12p13.31. It does not encode protein but functions as a regulatory RNA, especially implicated in cancer biology. In acute myeloid leukemia, LINC00987 promotes Adriamycin resistance by acting as a competing endogenous RNA for miR-4458, influencing levels of HMGA2 and drug resistance proteins (P-GP, BCRP), and its elevated expression is associated with poor prognosis. LINC00987 may also serve as a tumor suppressor and immune microenvironment biomarker in several other cancers. Therapeutic targeting of LINC00987 is theoretical, as no drugs currently directly target this lncRNA, but it significantly affects drug response pathways and prognosis in malignancies[1][2][3][4].
