Mechanistically, LINC00994 acts as a competing endogenous RNA, sponging microRNAs such as miR-765-3p, which in turn modulates downstream targets like Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2)[2][4]. This regulatory network contributes to the aggressive phenotype of cancer cells, and silencing LINC00994 impairs tumor cell growth and invasiveness[2][3][4]. Because of its central role in cancer biology, LINC00994 is considered a potential therapeutic target and biomarker, but no interacting drugs or therapies have been reported to directly target it as of the current literature[2][3][4].
