Overview

Long interspersed element 1 (LINE-1) reverse transcriptase is an enzyme encoded by the ORF2 region of LINE-1 retrotransposons. It catalyzes the synthesis of complementary DNA from its own mRNA template during retrotransposition, a process that involves copying RNA back into DNA and integrating it at new genomic locations. Aberrant activation of LINE-1 RT is implicated in cancer progression and genome instability, making it a potential therapeutic target.
