Long non-coding RNA BX111 (BX111)

Target
BX111
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Transcriptional regulator (via modulation of transcription factors)
01

Overview

Long non-coding RNA BX111 is a hypoxia-inducible lncRNA overexpressed in pancreatic cancer tissues, where it promotes tumor growth, invasion, and metastasis by activating transcription of the EMT regulator ZEB1. BX111 acts by recruiting the transcription factor Y-box protein 1 (YB1) to the ZEB1 promoter, driving ZEB1 upregulation and downstream EMT targets such as E-cadherin and MMP2. Its transcription is induced by hypoxia (via HIF-1α), linking tumor microenvironmental stress to aggressive cancer behavior. High BX111 levels correlate with poor patient outcomes, making it both a candidate biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in oncology.

Mechanism of action

Regulates gene transcription by recruiting Y-box protein 1 (YB1) to the ZEB1 promoter, enhancing ZEB1 expression and promoting EMT in cancer cells. Mediates hypoxia-induced EMT via HIF-1α induction of BX111 transcription, establishing a link between tumor hypoxia and metastasis.
