Long non-coding RNA HCV regulated 1 (lncHR1), also called lncRNA induced by HCV, regulator of SREBF1, is a long non-coding RNA upregulated in hepatic cells infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV). It is localized in both nucleus and cytoplasm. lncHR1 plays a regulatory role in hepatic lipid metabolism by suppressing the expression of sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1c (SREBP-1c), a master transcriptional regulator of lipogenic genes. lncHR1 inhibits SREBP-1c expression by reducing phosphorylation of the PDK1/AKT/FoxO1 signaling pathway, promoting nuclear retention of FoxO1 and ultimately leading to decreased triglyceride synthesis and lipid droplet accumulation in hepatocytes. While it is mechanistically important in metabolic regulation, it is not currently classified as a drug target, and no pharmacological agents are known to act on it directly.
