Overview

Long non-coding RNA RP11-138J23.1 is a non-protein-coding RNA implicated in oncogenesis, especially in tumors such as gastric cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and colorectal cancer[1][2][3][4]. This lncRNA is overexpressed in cancerous tissue compared to normal tissue and promotes cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in vitro and in vivo[1][2][3]. Mechanistically, RP11-138J23.1 functions through interaction with the RNA-binding protein HuR, stabilizing oncogenic mRNA transcripts such as VAV3, thereby enhancing the malignant phenotype[1][2][3]. Suppression of RP11-138J23.1 inhibits tumor growth and invasiveness, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target and a biomarker for aggressive disease. RP11-138J23.1 is also known as NIHCOLE and is part of a subset of lncRNAs associated with poor prognosis and increased tumor cell proliferation. Its direct targeting by drugs is not currently established, and its pathway involves modulation of RNA stability mediated by accessory proteins, making it a potentially challenging but promising cancer target[1][2][3][4].
