GIHCG (Long noncoding RNA gradually increased during hepatocarcinogenesis) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) significantly upregulated in various cancers, notably hepatocellular carcinoma, cervical cancer, colorectal cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and tongue cell carcinoma[1][2][3][4]. GIHCG promotes cancer cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibits apoptosis, primarily through epigenetic silencing of the tumor suppressor microRNA miR-200b/200a/429 family by recruiting chromatin modifiers (EZH2, DNMT1) to their promoter, resulting in increased histone H3K27 methylation and DNA methylation that suppress miRNA expression[1][2][4]. This silencing, in turn, dysregulates key cellular pathways associated with tumor progression and metastasis. High GIHCG expression is associated with larger tumor size, vascular invasion, advanced disease stage, metastasis, and poor prognosis[1][3][4]. GIHCG is detectable and stable in patient serum, making it a promising non-invasive diagnostic and prognostic biomarker[2][3]. There are no approved drugs currently known to interact directly with GIHCG, but its specific roles in tumor progression, coupled with its stability and predictive value, suggest it is a potential therapeutic target and biomarker in oncology[1][2][3][4].
