Long noncoding RNA regulator of monocyte proliferation (LNCRMP) is a human long noncoding RNA essential for monocyte proliferation and survival[2][3]. LNCRMP is situated adjacent to the IRF8 gene, a transcription factor key to monocyte/macrophage development, and regulates IRF8 in cis. Knockdown of LNCRMP in the THP-1 monocyte cell line results in markedly decreased cell growth and viability, mainly via decreased IRF8 expression and activation of proapoptotic gene expression programs. Genome accessibility and isoform expression data indicate that LNCRMP is expressed at low levels in resting monocytes, with highest expression upon macrophage activation. There is currently no evidence for direct pharmacological targeting, but LNCRMP serves as a functional noncoding RNA target controlling monocyte homeostasis and may have implications in diseases involving monocyte dysregulation such as lupus[2][3].
