Long-wave-sensitive opsin 1

Molecular classification
G-protein coupled receptor, Opsin
01

Overview

Long-wave-sensitive opsin 1 (OPN1LW) is a protein that functions as the red cone photopigment in the retina. It is essential for normal color vision, specifically for detecting light in the yellow/orange to red part of the visible spectrum (long-wavelength light). Mutations or recombinations affecting OPN1LW can cause various forms of color blindness, including red-green color blindness and blue cone monochromacy.
