Overview
LONRF2 pseudogene 5 (LONRF2P5) is a non-protein-coding genomic sequence homologous to the LONRF2 gene. Pseudogenes like LONRF2P5 may be transcribed into RNA, and, in some cases, their transcripts can regulate cellular processes indirectly by acting as decoys for microRNAs or through other lncRNA-like mechanisms, mostly in the context of cancer. However, there is no evidence that LONRF2P5 is translated into a functional protein, nor is there any clear disease association or pharmacological relevance for this pseudogene. LONRF2P5 is not a molecular target for therapy, and should not be confused with LONRF2, which is a functional ubiquitin ligase involved in protein quality control and motor neuron health.
