Louse Metalloproteinase

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Metalloproteinase
01

Overview

Louse metalloproteinases are a class of enzymes produced by lice (such as Pediculus humanus capitis, the head louse) that play essential roles in the development and reproductive cycle of these ectoparasites. These enzymes belong to the broader family of metalloproteinases, which require metal ions (typically zinc) for their catalytic activity. They are critical for egg hatching and tissue remodeling. Abametapir is a known inhibitor.
