Target intelligence / Profile preview
Low affinity immunoglobulin gamma Fc region receptor II-c (FCGR2C) is a transmembrane protein found primarily on the surface of various immune cells. It acts as a low-affinity receptor for the Fc portion of complexed immunoglobulins gamma (IgG), mediating several key effector functions such as phagocytosis, regulation/modulation of antibody production by B cells, and signal transduction during an immune response. The gene encoding this protein belongs to a cluster that includes other closely related receptors like FCGR2A and FCGR2B; all are part of the broader CD32 family. Variants in these genes can influence susceptibility to autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus. Due to its role in modulating immunity—both activating and inhibitory—FCGR2C is considered a potential therapeutic target in autoimmunity, infection control, cancer therapy using monoclonal antibodies, and other conditions where antibody-mediated immunity plays a central role.
Drugs targeting this molecule generally act via one or more of the following mechanisms: - Antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity through engagement with the Fc region on therapeutic antibodies. - Modulation of phagocytosis and clearance of immune complexes. - Downregulation or upregulation of B cell activity depending on context and isoform.
