Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 16 (p75NTR) is a transmembrane glycoprotein and a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) superfamily. It is also known as the low-affinity nerve growth factor receptor (LNGFR or NGFR). This receptor plays critical roles in nervous system development and function, influencing neuronal survival, apoptosis, axon guidance, and synaptic plasticity. Beyond neural functions, it regulates glucose metabolism. Therapeutic targeting is under investigation for various indications, including Alzheimer’s disease and neuropathies.
