LRAT domain containing 2 (LRATD2), also known as FAM84B or breast cancer membrane protein 101, encodes a protein that contains an LRAT (lecithin retinol acyltransferase) domain but is not a known enzyme or receptor. It is a protein-coding gene found at the plasma membrane and cytoplasm and is implicated in cancer pathogenesis, especially breast and prostate cancer. LRATD2 promotes cell proliferation, potentially through cell cycle-related pathways, and may serve as a prognostic biomarker in several tumors. Although it is considered a putative therapeutic target due to its cancer associations, there are currently no approved drugs specifically targeting LRATD2, and its precise molecular role in disease remains under investigation.
