Overview

LRRC52 antisense RNA 1 (LRRC52-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the LRRC52 gene, located on chromosome 1 (NCBI 400794, ENSG00000237463)[4][7]. It does not encode a protein and is classified as an antisense RNA that likely regulates gene expression through various mechanisms typical of lncRNAs, such as transcriptional interference or modulation of chromatin structure[3]. Recent research has identified LRRC52-AS1 as significantly upregulated in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), where it is associated with disease progression and regulates cancer cell migration and invasion[2]. Its expression in fine needle aspiration (FNA) samples is a promising biomarker to differentiate malignant from benign thyroid nodules, suggesting diagnostic utility in clinical settings for thyroid cancer[2]. However, there is currently limited information about drugs directly targeting LRRC52-AS1, and it is not considered a conventional therapeutic target like enzymes, receptors, or ion channels.
