LRRC8D divergent transcript (LRRC8D-DT) is a long non-coding RNA located near the LRRC8D gene locus. It plays pharmacological and physiological roles in enabling the transport of anti-cancer drugs and the organic osmolyte taurine, potentially by regulating or supporting the function of adjacent protein-coding genes such as LRRC8D. Its expression is associated with changes in drug responsiveness and cancer progression, although it is not a direct therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme itself[3][4]. LRRC8D-DT is sometimes detected in RNA sequencing analyses characterizing gene expression changes in cancer cell line models, where changes in its expression are linked to altered drug sensitivity and cell function[4]. It should not be confused with the protein-coding gene LRRC8D (Leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 8D), which is a volume-regulated anion channel subunit that can contribute to drug uptake (such as cisplatin). LRRC8D-DT remains a transcript of interest for research but is not currently a validated therapeutic or diagnostic target[3][4].
