Overview

LRRK2 divergent transcript (LRRK2-DT), also known as LINC01779, is a long non-coding RNA found in the human genome near the LRRK2 gene locus. It does not code for a protein and is classified as a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA). LRRK2-DT may be involved in the regulation of gene expression at the LRRK2 locus or have other, as yet insufficiently characterized, regulatory roles in cell biology. There is currently no evidence that LRRK2-DT is a therapeutic target, nor that it encodes any enzyme, receptor, transporter, or similar druggable protein. Its primary relevance in biomedical research is linked to the regulatory landscape of the LRRK2 gene, which is known to play a pivotal role in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease[3]. However, unlike the protein-coding LRRK2, LRRK2-DT itself has not yet been clearly implicated as a disease gene, biomarker, or direct therapeutic target. No drugs are known to target LRRK2-DT specifically.
