LSAMP antisense RNA 1 (LSAMP-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) located antisense to the mRNA encoding limbic system-associated membrane protein LSAMP. It is poorly expressed in prostate cancer (PCa) tissues and cell lines, and its low expression is associated with poor prognosis and advanced disease features in prostate cancer. LSAMP-AS1 functions as a tumor suppressor, inhibiting EMT, proliferation, migration, and invasion of PCa cells by acting as a molecular sponge for microRNA-183–5p, thereby upregulating decorin (DCN), a tumor suppressor protein. Overexpression of LSAMP-AS1 in cell lines and mouse xenograft models suppresses tumor growth. LSAMP-AS1 is emerging as a potential biomarker and a candidate for further research into lncRNA-based anticancer therapies.
