Overview

LSM family member 14B (LSM14B) is a conserved RNA-binding protein that forms messenger ribonucleoprotein (mRNP) complexes and is a key component of P-body-like granules and mitochondria-associated ribonucleoprotein domain (MARDO) in oocytes[1][2][4]. Unlike its paralog LSM14A, which is broadly expressed in somatic cells, LSM14B is oocyte-specific in vertebrates and participates in maternal mRNA storage, stabilization, and translational regulation, including both repression and activation depending on developmental context[1][2][3][4]. LSM14B interacts with a broad array of RNA-binding proteins (such as DDX6, ZAR1, YBX2) and is involved in the assembly of membrane-less compartments impacting oocyte development, maturation, and fertility[2][4].
