LSM2 pseudogene 2 (LSM2P2)

LSM2 pseudogene 2 (LSM2P2) is a pseudogene related to the LSM2 gene, located on the human genome. Pseudogenes like LSM2P2 are DNA segments similar to protein-coding genes but typically harbor disabling mutations and do not code for functional proteins[5][6]. While protein-coding LSM2 is involved in RNA processing and pre-mRNA splicing as part of multi-protein complexes[3][5], there is currently no evidence that LSM2P2 encodes a functional protein or is itself a direct therapeutic or diagnostic target. However, pseudogenes may participate in gene regulation at the RNA level, for example by competing for RNA-binding proteins or affecting the stability of related mRNAs[2].
