Target intelligence / Profile preview

LSM3 homolog, U6 small nuclear RNA and mRNA degradation associated pseudogene 2 (LSM3P2)

Target
LSM3P2
Molecular classification
Other (processed pseudogene, retrocopy), Not a member of canonical protein families (such as GPCR, ion channel, enzyme, receptor, etc.)
01

Overview

LSM3P2 is a **processed pseudogene**, specifically a retrocopy of the parental protein-coding gene LSM3[4]. LSM3 itself encodes a Sm-like protein involved in U6 small nuclear RNA stability and pre-mRNA splicing, as well as mRNA degradation pathways, but LSM3P2 does not produce a functional protein[1][2][10]. While some pseudogenes may acquire regulatory functions or impact gene expression through non-coding RNA mechanisms, there is currently no evidence that LSM3P2 plays a significant regulatory or disease-related role. It is not conserved across major species and is not characterized as a protein-coding, druggable, or canonical molecular target[4][5][7][8].

Mechanism of action

None (not a drug target, no mechanisms of action described)

03

Biological functions

Other (non-coding RNA, uncharacterized regulatory roles possible; pseudogene transcripts can sometimes regulate other genes via RNA interference)No direct biological function as a protein
04

Disease associations

Other (processed pseudogenes may have regulatory effects or be involved in genome evolution and diseases, but there is no direct evidence linking LSM3P2 specifically to a disease)No established role in cancer, inflammation, neurodegeneration, etc.
