Overview

LSP1 pseudogene 5 (LSP1P5) is a human pseudogene related to the lymphocyte specific protein 1 (LSP1) gene. By standard definition, a pseudogene is a genetic element derived from a functional gene that has lost its protein-coding ability due to mutations, truncations, or other genomic rearrangements. While some pseudogenes can exert regulatory functions at the RNA level (e.g., acting as competing endogenous RNAs or long noncoding RNAs), there is no direct evidence that LSP1P5 participates in any specific biological process or disease mechanism. It is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or active therapeutic target. References to LSP1P5 as LSP1P4 appear to be alternate or less common nomenclature, possibly reflecting historical annotation inconsistencies. The function of most pseudogenes, including LSP1P5, remains poorly characterized, and they are generally not considered canonical drug targets or biomarkers.
