Overview

LTO1 pseudogene 1 (LTO1P1, also known as ORAOV1P1) is a human pseudogene. Pseudogenes are non-functional DNA segments that resemble functional genes but typically do not encode proteins due to disablements such as premature stop codons or frameshifts[7]. LTO1P1 shares sequence homology with ORAOV1 ("Oral cancer overexpressed 1"), a gene known for its frequent overexpression in oral and other squamous cell carcinomas, implicating the functional gene (but not its pseudogene) in tumor growth, apoptosis, cell cycle regulation, and angiogenesis[2][4]. Pseudogenes like LTO1P1 can sometimes regulate gene expression via RNA mechanisms but, for this pseudogene, there is no established functional or therapeutic relevance. LTO1P1 is not considered a therapeutic target, and no interacting drugs, disease roles, or biomarker status are attributed to it[3][5][7].
