While essential for normal respiration, dysfunction or damage in this network can contribute significantly to diseases such as pulmonary hypertension, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), pneumonia-induced injury, or fluid overload leading to edema[2]. **Note:** The "lung capillary bed" is an anatomical feature—not a discrete molecular entity like a receptor or enzyme—and thus does not fit standard definitions used for drug targets.
