Overview

Lung tissue refers to the entire structural and cellular composition of the lungs, including alveoli (lined by type I and type II pneumocytes), bronchial epithelium, alveolar macrophages, endothelial cells, and interstitial cells[4][5][6]. Its primary physiological function is gas exchange between air and blood, but it also plays roles in host defense and immune regulation. Lung tissue is a site of multiple disease processes, including infection, cancer, and fibrosis, and harbors a variety of cellular markers and potential therapeutic targets within its constituent cells. However, "lung tissue" itself is an anatomical term rather than a precise molecular target[4][5].
