Overview
The La/SSB protein is a ubiquitous RNA-binding protein involved in various aspects of RNA metabolism, including protecting nascent RNA polymerase III transcripts, tRNA processing, and acting as an RNA chaperone. It is clinically relevant as a target of autoantibodies in autoimmune diseases like Sjögren's syndrome and systemic lupus erythematosus. It also plays a role in DNA damage response and X chromosome inactivation.
