Luteinizing Hormone Pathway

Molecular classification
Hormone Pathway, G protein-coupled receptor pathway
01

Overview

The Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Pathway is a crucial component of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, regulating reproductive function in both males and females. LH, released from the anterior pituitary in response to GnRH, binds to the LHR receptor on gonadal cells. In females, this triggers ovulation, corpus luteum formation, and progesterone production. In males, LH stimulates testosterone synthesis. Dysregulation of this pathway can lead to various reproductive disorders.

02

Mechanism of action

LH binds to LHR, activating G proteins and downstream signaling cascades to stimulate steroid hormone synthesis in gonadal cells.
