Overview

LY86 antisense RNA 1 (LY86-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) classified as an antisense RNA relative to the LY86 gene, located on chromosome 6p25.1 and spanning over 270 kb[1]. LY86-AS1 has no known protein-coding potential and is annotated in reference gene databases (RefSeq, HGNC)[2]. It is implicated in regulation of gene expression and features in competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) and protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks[2]. LY86-AS1 is significantly downregulated in plasma cell leukemia versus multiple myeloma, suggesting a role in hematological malignancy progression and its potential use as a biomarker for distinguishing these diseases[5]. Additionally, altered LY86-AS1 expression is associated with lung adenocarcinoma and fasting blood glucose levels, while decreased levels correlate with disease progression in Alzheimer’s disease[2][5]. Current evidence does not describe any known direct drug interactions, mechanisms of action for pharmacological targeting, or established safety concerns. To date, LY86-AS1 is not classified as a therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but mainly as a disease-associated non-coding RNA[2][5].
