Target intelligence / Profile preview
A "lymphatic system tracer" refers broadly to any radiolabeled compound administered—typically via subcutaneous injection—to visualize the anatomy and function of the human lymphatic system using nuclear medicine techniques such as scintigraphy or SPECT/CT. These tracers do not bind specifically to molecular targets but instead travel passively through interstitial spaces into initial lymphatics, then along collecting vessels toward regional nodes where their accumulation can be detected by external gamma cameras. Common examples include technetium‐99m–labeled colloids and other radiopharmaceuticals designed for optimal particle size and biocompatibility. Their primary clinical uses are sentinel node mapping in cancer surgery, diagnosis/evaluation of lymphedema, assessment of abnormal drainage patterns after surgery or trauma, and investigation of suspected infection/inflammation involving the lymphatics[3][4][5]. They do not represent therapeutic targets, nor do they have canonical gene/protein names associated with them.
The mechanism involves passive drainage through the interstitial space into the lymphatics after subcutaneous injection; particles are transported by normal lymph flow and accumulate in regional nodes where they can be imaged using gamma cameras[3][4][5]. There is no interaction with endogenous receptors or enzymes.
