Lymphatic Tissue

Molecular classification
Connective Tissue, Immune System Component
01

Overview

Lymphatic tissue is a specialized form of connective tissue that plays a central role in the immune system. It consists primarily of lymphocytes, along with supporting stromal cells and extracellular matrix. Lymphatic tissue forms the structural basis for various organs and structures within the lymphatic system, including lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, tonsils, Peyer’s patches in the intestine, and diffuse collections beneath mucosal surfaces. It functions in lymphocyte production/maturation, filtering fluids, initiating immune responses, maintaining fluid balance, and absorbing fats.
