Lymphocyte depletion refers to the reduction or removal of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell crucial for immune function, from circulation or specific tissues. This process is most commonly used as a form of immunosuppression in clinical settings, either by reducing circulating lymphocytes directly or by depleting T-cells from bone marrow preparations. The goal is often to suppress the immune response for therapeutic purposes, such as in transplantation, treatment of autoimmune diseases, or certain cancers.
