Target intelligence / Profile preview

Lymphocyte differentiation antigen CD38 (CD38)

Target
CD38
Molecular classification
Transmembrane glycoprotein, Ectoenzyme
01

Overview

CD38 is a multifunctional transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on immune cells. It functions as both a cell surface antigen and an ectoenzyme, catalyzing the metabolism of NAD+ and regulating intracellular calcium mobilization. It is a therapeutic target in multiple myeloma, with anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies like daratumumab and isatuximab approved for treatment. Altered CD38 expression/function is also implicated in autoimmune diseases.
