Lymphocyte-specific protein 1 pseudogene 2 (LSP1P2) is a pseudogene, defined as a DNA sequence homologous to the protein-coding LSP1 gene but is itself generally not protein-coding due to loss of essential coding potential[1][3][4]. Pseudogenes like LSP1P2 typically arise through duplication or retrotransposition of ancestral functional genes and subsequently accumulate mutations that abrogate protein-coding capacity[5]. While a subset of pseudogenes in the human genome can generate RNA or, rarely, small peptides, there is no evidence that LSP1P2 plays a functional role in cellular biology, nor is it considered a therapeutic target or associated with human disease[1][3][4][5].
