Target intelligence / Profile preview
LYPLA1P3 (LYPLA1 pseudogene 3) is a genomic locus classified as a pseudogene related to the functional gene LYPLA1 (lysophospholipase 1). By definition, a pseudogene is a non-functional segment of DNA resembling a functional gene but typically does not encode a functional protein and is not translated. LYPLA1P3 does not have a known direct biological or pathogenic role, is not used as a biomarker or therapeutic target, and does not participate in molecular pathways like LYPLA1. While pseudogenes may occasionally possess regulatory roles or generate non-coding RNAs, no specific function has been annotated for LYPLA1P3. LYPLA1P3 is described only as a pseudogene of LYPLA1. The active, functional gene LYPLA1 (lysophospholipase 1), sometimes called acyl-protein thioesterase 1 (APT1), plays roles in depalmitoylation and cell signaling, but LYPLA1P3 does not encode this protein. There are pseudogenes of LYPLA1 on chromosomes 4, 6, and 7; LYPLA1P3 is one of these and is non-functional. There is no evidence LYPLA1P3 is a protein, enzyme, receptor, transporter, or any commonly druggable class, nor is it implicated in any disease as a canonical target. Any curation or structured data system should flag this for removal or exclusion as a therapeutic target.
