Overview

LYR motif-containing protein 9 (LYRM9) is a small, hydrophilic, nuclear-encoded protein found within mitochondria and is characterized by a conserved N-terminal leucine-tyrosine-arginine (LYR) motif[1][2]. Members of the LYRM family, including LYRM9, generally function as assembly factors, accessory subunits, or chaperones involved primarily in mitochondrial processes, including oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), protein synthesis, and iron-sulfur cluster assembly[1][2]. Specifically, bioinformatic analysis predicts that LYRM9 interacts with the mitoribosome subunit MRPL57 as well as LYRM1, thereby contributing to the maturation or stabilization of the mitochondrial ribosome[1]. There is no evidence that LYRM9 acts as a direct target for any approved or investigational drugs, nor is it classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor. Its dysfunction has not been directly associated with a specific disease phenotype as of current literature, but related LYRM proteins are involved in various mitochondrial disorders[1][2].
