Overview

Lysine acetyltransferase 14 (KAT14) is a nuclear enzyme encoded by the KAT14 gene in humans. It is a component of the ADA2A-containing ATAC histone acetyltransferase complex, involved in acetylating histones H3 and H4 to promote chromatin organization and transcriptional regulation. KAT14 plays a role as a scaffold supporting ATAC complex stability and is required for normal cell cycle progression, especially through the G1 and G2/M phases[1][5]. The protein binds to LIM domains of CSRP2 and has weak intrinsic acetyltransferase activity. Diseases associated with alterations in KAT14 include mitochondrial complex IV deficiency and Buruli ulcer, and it may participate in fibrotic disease mechanisms[1][6].
