Lysine Acetyltransferase 2A (KAT2A) is a histone acetyltransferase enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of an acetyl group from acetyl-CoA to lysine residues on histone proteins, playing a crucial role in regulating gene expression. It also acetylates non-histone proteins and influences diverse biological processes, including transcription activation, stem cell pluripotency and differentiation, memory formation, and cancer development. KAT2A's enzymatic activity primarily involves acetylation, although it can weakly interact with other acyl donors. It belongs to the GNAT family and interacts with various transcription factors, such as NF-kB, to achieve specificity in gene regulation.
