Lysine rich nucleolar protein 1 pseudogene 1 (KNOP1P1) is a human pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA sequence similar to a gene but generally considered non-functional due to frameshifts, mutations, or other disabling events that prevent it from encoding a functional protein[3][4]. Pseudogenes like KNOP1P1 may still be transcribed into RNA and, in rare cases, can have regulatory roles by interacting with RNA-binding proteins or microRNAs, thus affecting the expression of related protein-coding genes[1][2]. However, there is no evidence that KNOP1P1 itself is functionally important in normal biology or disease, nor is it a therapeutic target[4].
