Overview

Lysine-specific demethylase 5A (KDM5A) is a nuclear enzyme that removes methyl groups from methylated lysine 4 of histone H3, playing crucial roles in gene regulation and cell differentiation. It has been implicated in cancer development and is a member of the KDM5/JARID1 family. KDM5A regulates gene transcription, influences mitochondrial function, and interacts with retinoblastoma protein (pRB). Its inhibition has shown promise in overriding differentiation blocks in cancer cells.
