Overview

LysM domain-containing protein 4 (LYSMD4) is a protein encoded by the LYSMD4 gene in humans (located on chromosome 15q26.3)[1][3]. The protein's primary feature is the LysM (lysin motif) domain, a globular module of about 40 amino acids known for binding polysaccharides such as peptidoglycan and chitin, mainly present in bacterial and fungal cell walls[6][2]. The precise biological function of LYSMD4 in humans is not well characterized, but the LysM domain suggests a likely role in carbohydrate recognition, possibly mediating interactions with microbial cell wall components. LYSMD4 is distinct from classical receptor or enzyme targets and has not been established as a therapeutic target[1][3][6]. Disease associations are limited and indirect, with some links to rare congenital disorders, but without established mechanistic roles.
