Lysophosphatidic Acid (LPA)

Target
LPA
Molecular classification
Phospholipid derivative, Signaling molecule
01

Overview

Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a simple, bioactive phospholipid that acts as a potent intercellular signaling molecule. It stimulates cell proliferation, survival, migration, and differentiation in multiple cell types. LPA plays roles in development, angiogenesis, wound healing, immune responses, and pathological conditions such as cancer progression and neuropathic pain. LPA exerts its effects mainly through binding to specific G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) known as LPARs. Aberrant regulation or overproduction/signaling through the autotaxin-LPA axis has been implicated in several diseases, making it a target for therapeutic intervention.
