Lysophosphatidylglycerol acyltransferase 1 pseudogene 1 (LPGAT1P1; ENSG00000253793) is a human pseudogene and does not encode an active protein product. It is related by sequence to the functional lysophosphatidylglycerol acyltransferase 1 (LPGAT1) gene, which catalyzes the reacylation of lysophosphatidylglycerol, but LPGAT1P1 itself contains disabling mutations preventing expression of a functional enzyme[1][2][5][8]. This gene is specifically annotated as a pseudogene, meaning it is a nonfunctional copy of a gene that has lost its protein-coding ability and is not expressed as a functional protein in humans. Pseudogenes are typically not considered valid therapeutic targets, since they do not produce proteins that can be targeted by drugs or are involved in disease mechanisms. There is no evidence in the search results of disease association, biological function, or drug targeting for LPGAT1P1. The corresponding functional gene, LPGAT1, is an enzyme involved in phospholipid metabolism, but this function does not apply to pseudogene LPGAT1P1[4].
