Target intelligence / Profile preview
Lysosomal cholesterol refers to the pool of cholesterol that is trafficked to, processed within, and exported from lysosomes—membrane-bound organelles responsible for degradation and recycling of various biomolecules. Lysosomes play a central role in cellular cholesterol homeostasis by processing low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-derived cholesteryl esters into free cholesterol, which is then distributed to other cellular compartments or stored as needed.
