Overview

The lysosomal membrane is a single phospholipid bilayer that encloses the lysosome, maintaining the acidic environment required by lysosomal enzymes and protecting the rest of the cell from these potent hydrolytic enzymes. It controls selective permeability, protects cytosolic components, and facilitates fusion with other vesicles. Key components include LAMPs/LIMPs, transporters, and v-ATPase. Defects can cause inherited diseases.
