Lysozyme g-like protein 2 (LYG2) is a protein-coding gene product predicted to function as a potent antibacterial enzyme and to play a role in innate immunity. It contains a SLT domain found in both bacterial lytic transglycosylases and eukaryotic lysozymes, capable of cleaving the beta-1,4-glycosidic bond between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine, which are components of bacterial cell walls. Its expression, function, and evolutionary conservation suggest a likely role in host defense, although its specific physiological importance in humans is incompletely characterized. Note: While related to classical lysozymes (such as those active in tears, mucus, and blood for bacterial defense), LYG2 is not currently a recognized therapeutic target or disease biomarker and lacks direct drug interactors.
