Lysyl Oxidase-like Protein 2 (LOXL2)

Target
LOXL2
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Amine Oxidase, Lysyl Oxidase Family
01

Overview

Lysyl oxidase-like protein 2 (LOXL2) is an enzyme that belongs to the lysyl oxidase family. It plays a critical role in the biogenesis of connective tissue by catalyzing crosslinking of collagen and elastin fibers. LOXL2 is a copper-dependent amine oxidase that mediates post-translational oxidative deamination of lysine residues on target proteins, leading to the formation of allysine and subsequent cross-linking. It is essential for extracellular matrix remodeling and is implicated in various diseases including cancer and fibrotic conditions. Several inhibitors targeting LOXL2 are under investigation as potential therapeutics.
