M-phase phosphoprotein 1 (MPP1), also known as kinesin-like protein KIF20B, is a plus-end-directed kinesin-related molecular motor essential for cytokinesis. It localizes to the midzone and midbody during cell division, ensuring proper separation of daughter cells. Autoantibodies against MPP1 have been detected in patients with neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE), suggesting a potential role in the pathogenesis of SLE-related cranial neuropathies. It acts as a slow-moving motor along microtubules.
